Lace border, one of two lengths, Mechlin, bobbin made, linen / cotton, maker unkown, Flanders, c.1840
The solid areas of the lace design are mainly cloth stitch with an outlining coronnet, with some half stitch areas for cariation. There are three different fillings are the ground is plaited four times, and twistd twice. The inner edge (engrelure) is machine made. Lace is made of linen and cotton.

A lace border, one of two lengths, Mechline lace, bobbin lace technqiue, made of linen and cotton which consists of a floral repeat design with a scalloped edge. Lace consists of a motif of an open boteh shape adjoining each other to form the scalloped edge. A spray of flowers curves in an apposing direction from each alternate boteh, and separate small sprigs are placed between the sprays and the footside, all in a mesh ground. The size of the repeat is 65mm and is repeated four times along length. The solid areas of the design are mainly cloth stitch with an outlining coronnet, with some half stitch areas for cariation.
