Description
Border lace with irregular, almost straight headside and mesh ground.
Pattern
Continuous waving trail of narrow saw-toothed leaf shapes with floral sprays curving outwards. Other open leaf-shaped motifs with floral decoration intersect the trail twice in each pattern repeat. Headside edge formed by narrow floral trail relieved at intervals by open lozenge shapes.
Technique
Solid areas of the design worked in simple buttonholed cloth stitch outlined with an applied buttonholed cordonnet. Flowers relieved by small areas of voided patterning. leaf veins formed by rows of spaced, twisted buttonhole stitches.
Four different fillings
1) small spaces crossed by buttonholed pitoted bars
2) triple twisted whipped buttonhole stitch mesh - similar to standard Alencon mesh
3) chequerboard pattern of narrow buttonholed braids forming diamond shapes each of which contains 4 small buttonholed rings
4) chequerboard pattern of buttonholed bars forming diamond shapes each containing, alternately - small button holed square or buttonholed ring.
Standard Argentan mesh ground of buttonholed bars. Bobbin made engrelure.
