Description
Lace length, black, bobbin lace technique, silk, maker unknown, Spain, c 1830
A lace length, black, bobbin lace technique, made of silk. Design includes a border with an irregular picoted scalloped border with a repeating design of relatively large curving floral sprays which form the headside scallops. The floral repeat is 70mm in width. The solid areas of the design are worked in cloth stitch using a soft thick pair of worker threads to create a strong contrast with the rest of the lace. A small three petal flowers in each repeat is worked in a half stitch. All design elements are outlined with a multi-strand gimp. The only filling stitch is the standard honeycomb net. The picots are worked by twisting two threads together around the pin. This lace length is made of silk.
