Anatomical model, human hand, wood / papier-mache / plaster / paint, maker unknown, 1850-1894

Model of a right human hand and wrist made from painted plaster, papier-mache and mounted on a brown rectangular wooden board with stand. The hand is cream-yellow in colour with some red paint in between and labelled with alphabetic text. The model shows the attachment of the eight small bones composing the carpus or wrist including the Scaphoid or boat-shaped bone; the Semilunar or half-moon shaped bone; the Cuneiform or wedge-shaped bone; the Pisiform or pea-shaped bone; the Trapezium or large many-sided bone; the Trapezoid or smaller many-sided bone; the green bone which is the largest in the wrist and the Unciform bone.

There are fifteen alphabetical letters and symbols handwritten in black ink on the model indicating specific bones.
