Sextant, No. 1920, brass, made by Troughton & Simms, made in London, England, c. 1836
The sextant was made by Troughton & Simms of London, England, c. 1836.
The sextant is inscribed "Presented by Richard Evans Price Esq to Capt Geo Johnston of the Barque 'Australia' for his kind and unremitting attentions to me and my family while passengers in his vessel from London to Valparaiso - 23 February 1836".

Description
Sextant, No. 1920, brass, made by Troughton & Simms, made in London, England, c. 1836

Double plated brass sextant with telescope (the telescope is probably not original to the sextant), solar filters and wooden handle. Scale ruled on silver. Sextant is inscribed for presentation.

Also a brass cased 14 second hourglass which may not be directly related to sextant.

Along scale of sextant, presentation inscribed "Presented by Richard Evans Price Esq to Capt Geo Johnston of the Barque 'Australia' for his kind and unremitting attentions to me and my family while passengers in his vessel from London to Valparaiso - 23 February 1836". Also maker's inscription on strut of sextant 'TROUGHTON & SIMMS, LONDON;1920'. On hourglass '14/SEC'
