Tray, marquety inlaid Murray Red Gum (Eucalyptus rostrata), gum leaf design, William Johnson, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1916.
Inlaid with eucalyptus leaf design. Flat oval wooden tray, set on a slightly wider wooden foot and edged with a narrow band of bent wood which is applied to form a lip around the top. The centre of the tray is decorated with a marquetry design in lighter coloured wood. It depicts four boughs of gum leaves faning out from a bow at the bottom centre. Nestled amongst the leaves are gum nuts, and in the centre is a grouping of fluffy flowers. A metal handle has been attached at each side, shaped in a slight scroll and terminating in a cylindrical bar of wood. The whole is varnished.
