Description
Aero engine and part, 150hp Bentley BRI, rotary radial British Vickers Ltd, England, 1918.
Nine cylinder 150 horse power rotary aero engine. The steel crankshaft runs through the centre of the crankcase to which the rotating parts of the engine are attached. These include the cam gear box at the front and the thrustbox at the rear. The nine cylinder cases radiate out of the crankcase proper and are made of aluminium and iron. From the top of each cylinder casing there are two connecting rods and valves that connect to the front of the crankcase and an exhaust pipe connecting to the rear of the crankcase. Attached to the rear of the crankcase there are two magnetos, an oil pump and an air pump.
The engine is fixed to a purpose built brown metal stand.
Also a small metal round part off the engine (result of damage whilst object was on loan to Newcastle Regional Museum). Magneto cap.
