Rotary cultivation was developed to a marketable form by Australian inventor, Cliff Howard, in the early 1920s. This large walk-behind cultivator from about 1936 that was typically used in orchards and market gardens for clearing virgin grassland and subsequent cultivation between rows of trees. It is powered by a V-twin air-cooled engine of Howard's own design. Similar machines were widely used in the western Sydney region.
