The S S "Kosciuszko " was one of the longest running ferries on Sydney Harbour commencing in 1911 and continuing into the 60's as the M V " Kosciuszko " ,converted to diesel . She then saw service from 1975 in Hobart ,as one of the ferries brought to Hobart ,after the collapse of the Tasman Bridge ,January 1975, following the collision of the bulk carrier "Lake Illawarra " with the bridge.

S S "Kosciuszko" ,a sister ship to S S "Kuttabul" which was sunk in Sydney Harbour in 1942 by torpedo attack, was built 1911 by D. Drake of Balmain for Sydney Ferries Ltd. The "Kosciuszko " was converted to diesel power 1959, now names M V "Kosciuszko". After long and distinguished service on Sydney Harbour, in 1975 the ship was offered to the Hobart Marine Board to help transport commuters across Hobart harbour after the Tasman Bridge disaster. Shw was duly purchased, the open decks boarded up and towed to Hobart by the tug "Sydney Cove ".The "Lady Ferguson " and "Lady Wakehurst " were also towed to Hobart for commuter ferry service, although the " Lady Ferguson " was not used due to the poor condition of its hull. The " Kosciuszko ", affectionately known as "Kossie ", was in operation in Hobart for several years before finally being scrapped.
