Ship model, SS "Parua", builder's half block model of coastal steamer, constructed with two masts, two hatches, focsle, well deck & long raised quarter deck, scale 1:48, Singapore, 1899 (OF).

Block and half block models were used by builders to illustrate the designs provided to them by engineering firms. By the middle of the1850's, half block models were common in commercial shipyards. They were used as aids for framing, planking and plating ships. By the 1880's, more were being made for display only.

Ship model, SS "Parua", builder's half block model of coastal steamer, constructed with two masts, two hatches, focsle, well deck & long raised quarter deck, scale 1:48, Singapore, 1899 (OF). Accession 8562. Ship model, S.S. "Parua", half-hull with single funnel and two masts made of solid laminated timber mounted on wooden board. Colours: red, black, yellow, white. Official no. 102419. 106 gross tons, 51 net tons. Built in Singapore 1899, registered Townsville 1900. Dimensions of ship: length 87', beam 18', depth 8.2'. Dimensions of model: L:62cm (24 1/2), B: 6cm (2 1/2), D: 7.5cm (3"). Condition is fair (SB).
