The jardiniere was painted by Katherine Smallfield from original designs supplied by Miss Rutherford of Bathurst, New South Wales.
Included in the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences Royal Doulton exhibition, 1979.

Jardiniere, earthenware, faience glaze, hand-painted with Sturt's desert pea (Clianthus formosus) by Katherine B. Smallfield, Doulton and Co., Lambeth, London, England, [c. 1895]

A hand thrown, glazed, earthenware jardinere painted (faience) on the exterior with Sturt's desert pea (Clianthus formosus) flowers and foliage on a yellow ground. The interior is also of a graded yellow glaze, with the circular body rising from a flat base to an upright rim.

Made: Doulton & Co (Lambeth works); Lambeth, England; 1890 - 1900
