Woman's skirt cloth (tapis), silk/metallic thread/cotton/metal/glass, embroidered, made in Lampung region, South Sumatra, Indonesia, 1875-1925
This skirt cloth possily made by the Abung people of the interior of Lampung, in South Sumatra, Indonesia.

Description
Woman's skirt cloth (tapis), silk/metallic thread/cotton/metal/glass, embroidered, made in Lampung region, South Sumatra, Indonesia, 1875-1925.

Warp faced, plain weave made up of two panels of equal size joined at the selvages. Ground of dark and light brown warp stripes, interspersed with bands displaying couched gold and silver thread, sequins, brightly coloured felt and cotton, mirror pieces (cermuk). The design is abstract, floral and geometric. Lower border displays 'tumpal' or triangle motif in couched metallic threads. The whole length has been seamed to for a tube.
