A6555 Pot, discoid form, stoneware, Derek Smith, Australia, 1976
Images: 01 02

This pot was made by Derek Smith in Australia.

During the 1970s Derek Smith set up pottery production and training studios in Sydney. Blackfriars Pottery, established in Chippendale in 1976, became the largest of its kind in Australia.

This pot is rubbed with cobalt oxide to produce the blue colour, and partly covered with white glaze. The brown areas are where natural iron in the clay is not masked by cobalt oxide and the glaze.

This pot was made in 1976.
