Object statement
Gloves, pair, buffalo skin/glass beads, fringed gauntlets, Northern Saskatchewan Cree style, Canada, 1900-1920
The style, cut and pinking detail all correspond with the Northern Saskatchewan Cree style. Another proof of this style comes from the characteristically distributed buckshot (metal beads) accents which are placed at the very tips and inside leaf-like forms, and also at the both ends of the stems. Use of small discs as composition fillers is also very typical along the use of conterie (square cut) style of beads in perlised and AB (Aurora Borealis) finishes. I believe the gloves were made and beaded in the early part of 20th century. As far as the machine stitching of these gloves...by the late 19th century over 1,5 million sewing machines were sold in North America.
