Bowl, lead glazed earthenware/ sgraffito, Byzantine Period, Cyprus, 1300-1390. Bowl of pinkish coloured clay with with a hollow flaring foot and straight sides. The bowl is coated on the interior and exterior surfaces with a pale yellow-green glaze over a white slip, with splashes of green and yellow glaze. A ridged effect is apparent on the rim due to the dripping of the glaze. The interior is incised with a large roundel divided into a central panel containing an interlaced pattern and two flanking lunettes bearing a guilloche design, all on a scribbled ground. The exterior is decorated with zig zags intersecting horizontal lines on the shoulder and horizontal lines near the rim.
