Description

Bowl, lead glazed earthenware/sgraffito decoration, Byzantine Period, Cyprus, 1300-1390. Bowl of fine buff/pink coloured clay with slightly carinated sides, a convex rim and hollow flaring foot. Beneath the rim are five small knobs. The bowl is decorated in brown glaze over slip to the elbow of the bowl , then continues onto the natural clay. The interior is covered with a pale yellow glaze over slip, with splashes of yellow and green glaze. Sgraffito decoration of spiral whorls between parallel lines is located beneath the rim.
