Pepper shaker, porcelain, modelled by C J Noke, made by Doulton & Co, Burslem, England, 1891-1893
A moulded ivory earthenawre spherical pepper shaker, decorated with raised dots and moulded scallop shells. The bottom of the pot is circular in shape, with a central, circular opening for pepper refill. Surrounding the opening are four feet in the shape of scallop shells, which support a spherical body, decorated at the top with raised dots. The top is also pierced with small holes for sprinkling pepper. The pepper pot is painted in pale brown and the scallop shell and raised dots are outlined in gold. The bottom of the feet are painted in clouded gold.
Part of maker's trademark on base, transfer printed in black, irregular circle shape, with text 'BURSLEM' at bottom, beneath which is text 'ENGLAND'.
