An earthenware plate, decorated with flowers and ferns. A circular foot ring rises to a concave upper face, with a shallow well and a wide, partly fluted border, with moulded scroll decoration. The well is edged with an arrangement of transfer-printed flowers and ferns in cobalt blue. The border is decorated with sprays of flowers and ferns in gold transfer print and three panels of cobalt blue, decorated with scrolls and flowers in gold transfer print. The fluting, moulded scrolls and rim are edged in gold.

Maker's trademark on base, transfer printed in brown, crown surmounting irregular circle shape, with text 'DOULTON / BURSLEM' encircling central motif of four interlinked 'D's and the text 'ENGLAND' beneath. Maker's number on base, written in blue '.3.'. Maker's trademark impressed on base, with the text ' BURSLEM / ENGLAND' encircling the word 'DOULTON'. Rectangular paper label adhered to base, printed in red and written in black ink and pencil 'DOULTON & CO. / T[ ]ent / a8562 / HY/= / HK/-'. Starburst paper label adhered to rectangular label, written in pencil '1J / BK/'.
