Plate, sun motifs and blue willow pattern, earthenware, made by Doulton & Co, Burslem, England, c1880s
An earthenware plate in the Aesthetic Movement style, decorated with sun motifs and a blue willow pattern. A circular foot ring rises to a concave upper face, with a shallow well and a wide border. The plate is decorated in Persian style, with circular gold-edged panels depicting blue sun motifs, gold sun motifs and a blue willow pattern. The panels are set on a cobalt blue border, which is also decorated with sprays of flowers in gold transfer print. The well and rim are edged in gold.
