Plate, gold monogram and scrolling foliate motifs, earthenware, made by Royal Doulton, Burslem, England, 1902-1918
An earthenware plate, decorated with a gold monogram and scrolling foliate motifs. A circular foot ring rises to a concave upper face, with a shallow well, a wide border and undulating rim. The border is decorated with a monogram 'MB' and scrolling foliate motifs, in gold transfer print. The well is edged in a fine band of gold and the rim is edged in scalloped gold.

Marks
Maker's trademark on base, transfer printed in purple, lion on top of crown surmounting text 'ROYAL DOULTON / ENGLAND' encircling central motif of four interlinked 'D's. Maker's number impressed on base '6-12'. Starburst paper label adhered to back, written in black ink 'YX/-'.
