Object statement
Decanter with stopper, glass, Reijmyre Glasbruk, Rejmyra, Sweden, c. 1923
Made by Reijmyre Glasbruk (Glassworks), Sweden, c.1923
Reijmyre Glasbruk, one of Sweden's oldest glassworks, was founded in 1810 by Johan Jakob Graver and Count Mattias von Ungern Sternberg in the village of Reijmyre, Ostergotland, not far from Stockholm. By the end of the century, Reijmyre had become one of the most famous glassworks in Sweden specialising in pressed and engraved tableware. At the beginning of the 20th century, new techniques and designs were introduced to reflect the fashionable Art Nouveau style. In 1903, the firm merged with the Kosta Glasbruk (later known as Kosta Boda) but both retained their own names. In 1977 Reijmyre was acquired by UPSALA-EKEBY. In 1993, the firm was taken over by Kathrina and Benny Fihn. Today, Reijmyre Glasbruk produces a wide range of glassware, both in traditional and contemporary designs.
