Military rank badge, embroidered silk, metallic thread, China, 1800-1911.

Military rank badge from the front of a robe, rectangular panel in two parts, dark brown silk ground embroidered predominantly with gold and silver wrapped, couched, metallic threads with red silk and green linen threads. Design features a central bear or Baio or tiger cat growling at the moon, flanked on each side by different trees with wave bands and diagonal stripes below. Geometric embroidered borders, lined with pale blue silk.
