Embroidered panel from skirt front, silk / silk and gold thread, China, 1800-1899.

Skirt panel on maroon silk brocade heavily embroidered with polychrome silk thread and couched gold metallic thread. Floral design with central peony and butterflies. All are in blues, brown, yellow, green and white. Bordered by four bands, a floral and butterfly design on black silk in blues and white, a plain blue silk band, a wide band of black silk embroidered in blues of a dense floral design, then a plain black silk band. The panel is backed with cream cotton damask.
