Belt buckle with box, bottle brush (Callistemon), silver gilt, made in England, retailed by Flavelle Brother Ltd, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, c.1910
Today very rare, this piece was acquired by the Museum for its spectacular 'Australian flora in applied art ' exhibition of approximately 200 decorative arts objects both Australian made and commissioned overseas, predominantly in England, for the Australian market. The exhibition opened in 1906 and continued, with new objects being added throughout its duration, until the 1930s. This piece also travelled to San Francisco as part of the Museum's contributions to the Panama Pacific International Exposition of 1915.
This belt buckle was made c. 1910, probably in England, and the box was made by Flavelle Brothers Ltd in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Belt buckle: oval belt buckle made of silver gilt decorated with bottle brush blooms in pinks and white with green foliage in champleve and painted enamel. These flowere are on a plain gilt ground. Tied to the back of the buckle with red string is a belt fastener of silver gilt.
Box: rectangular box with hinged lid made of metal covered wtih rusty brown textured paper. Inside of box is lined on the bottom with padded cream velvet and in the lid with cream silk.
