South Persia, 19th century. The elephant is unusual in the use of human figural decoration (added onto the face), and mythological heads (on the sides)

Elephant figure, brass, South Persia, 1800-1899.
Small figure of and elephant made of brass with elaborate incised and punched decoration and an articulate tail. The decoration is made up various medallions and cartouches with images of animals, figures and foliate motifs. The punched decoration is over the back and resembles the outline of a blanket. The tail is undecorated. The legs and underbelly are soldiered to the body.
