Osiris bust from broken statuette, carved basalt / wood, Egypt, Late Period
Carved basalt bust of Osiris, God of the Underworld, broken from full body statuette and mounted on a square wooden base. Osiris is depicted with broad, almond shaped eyes and eyebrows and is shown wearing the 'atef' crown with uraeus.The pillar on the rear of the statuette is inscribed. The surface of the bust, especially the front of the crown, is roughly finished.
Marks
The inscription reads 'Words spoken by Osiris' followed by 'Ankhi' (an epithet of Osiris, possibly meaning 'The living being') and 'May he give life and dominion...'.
