Description
Lace border, [Binche], Flemish, 1680-1700 (OF). Brussels applique lace (SB)
Lace border with a straight headside.
Design: Scrolling trail design, its form almost obscured by Partridge eye ground. Size of pattern repeat is 6 cm. Very reminiscent of late Italian needle lace designs, such as those for coralline point.
Technique: The scrolling trail is worked in cloth stitch with an open edge and the ground is mostly Partridge eye, with the occasional snowflake with plaits between.
Although this is a continuous lace, it clearly shows the influence of theItalian sectional laces such as Milanese and coralline point needlelace of theperiod.
