Description
Brooch, 'The Spray Brooch: Bloodier than Black', sterling silver / gold / titanium / stainless steel / powder-coating, Robert Baines, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 1998

The brooch form comprises a base constructed in titanium sheet that is square in section and supports a flat top comprising two stainless steel plates, the upper surface of which is applied with tiny stainless steel discs each with granulated silver and gold constructions. Also from the top springs an elaborate spray formation of wire-work in sterling silver powder-coated in red. A large pin at the back of the base forms part of a wire 'superstructure' that is suspended over the base from the stainless steel top that protrudes over its edges.
