Object statement
Toy, Sydney bus 3379, double deck, route number 272, wood/ metal, maker unknown, Australia, 1941-1946
This is based upon the Leyland Titan double decker bus built for NSW Department of Road Transport and Tramways between 1937-1939.
Toy buses such as this were sometimes made by workers at the public transport workshops in Sydney as a means of gaining extra income. The finish and materials used in this toy are somewhat crude but the level of detail indicates a familiarity with buses. David Wilson of the Sydney Bus and Tram Museum has also indicated that buses of this sort were made and sold at Farmers and Company in Sydney. (see object file)
This date range is indicated by the colour scheme of the bus. Cream and red was used in NSW between 1941 and 1946.
