Object statement
Toy motor cars (3), streamlined racers, metal/ rubber, maker unknown, [Australia/ United States of America], 1930-1940
The shape of these cars reflects the obsession with streamlined curves that was current in vehicle design in the 1930s. They resemble the futuristic projections of designers such a Raymond Loewy.
There are no maker's marks on these toys. However they resemble toys made by United States manufacturers such as Dyna, Sun Rubber and C.A.W. The casting of these cars is quite crude. The cars are made from a single piece of metal, possibly a lead magnesium alloy called mazac.
Donated by the National Trust's Museum of Australian Childhood by the Thyne Reid Foundation.
