Designed in the Melbourne office of the Grffin practice, probably by Marion Mahony, about 1916.

Made by the H Goldman Manufacturing Co., 394 LaTrobe Street, Central Melbourne. The company was located at this address 1913-1927 when it moved to South Yarra. Goldman's specialised in custom-made, high quality furniture and won several gold medals at international exhibitions in the first quarter of the century.

Made for the dining rooms of the Cafe Australia, 272 Collins Street, Melbourne, with facade and interiors designed by Marion Mahony Griffin, 1915-1916.
Unknown provenance prior to acquisition by vendor several years ago in Melbourne.

Chair (incomplete), dining, wood/upholstery stuffing, designed by Marion Mahony/Walter Burley Griffin for the Cafe Australia, Melbourne, made by the H Goldman Manufacturing Co., Melbourne, circa 1916.
Incomplete dining chair of Australian blackwood, the top half of the back rest removed; the remaining square-section, 'V' shaped back uprights joined to the back edge of the lower package platform. Four slightly splayed square section legs joined by a package platform with moulded edge. The moulded circular seat missing its original upholstery, but with remnants of original stuffing, spring and webbing on underside.
