The book was made, or at least compiled, in Budapest in Hungary.

The sample book was in all probablility used in the manner of most sample books, that is to offer a range of haberdashery options to customers. It is not known whether the book was used by a wholesaler to attract orders from a retailer, or by a retailer to seduce a tailor or dressmaker.
The sample book was given to the Australian Costume and Textile Society by M T F Carman.

Haberdashery sample book, leather/paper/fibre, Hungary, 1920-30

Large haberdashery sample book bound in dark maroon leather. The paper pages are edged with leather binding and carry horizontally mounted samples of braids, frog closures and trims of various fibres, weaves and colours. The volume is bound with card and string and is smoke damaged.
