According to the donor, the level was used for the tunnel construction of the railway between Circular Quay and St. James Station. The donor did not use the rod.
The donor purchased the level from the original owner.

Description
Engineer's survey rod in canvas bag, wood/metal/canvas, Wiesener, England, 1925-1932.
(-1/1:3)Survey rod, in three parts, consisting of a graduated wooden rod which can be extended to thirteen feet (3.9 metres). The rod is graduated with black markings on a white background in feet, tenths, hundredths, and even thousandths, if required. The level has been designed so vernier scales can be extended or retracted, in accordance with the height of the levelling measurement.
