Top, part of hand balancing costume, Ardini vaudeville performers, metal/cotton/synthetic, Australia, 1920-1950
The Ardinis were a family of handbalancers and musicians who performed on the Australian vaudeville circuit between the 1920s and the 1950s.
Donated to the Sydney Opera House by Mrs Jean Ardini 102/56 Ocean St Narrabeen, or 19 Lovett St Manly Vale.

Crop top with round neckline and short puff sleeves. Bodice is made of grey cotton fabric covered with large round silver sequins. Fuchsia pink organdy frill trims the neckline. Matching pink puff sleeves trimmed near cuff with three rows of sequins above a short frill. Low cut back with centre back opening fastening with metal hooks and eyes attached to elastic. A narrow elastic strap is across the open back fastening with metal hook and eye. Machine and hand sewn, unlined.
