This style of course woven jacket has been worn by men in rural areas from early this century up to the early 1980s. Jackets like this would have been worn with Chinese style trousers and tie belts (see 98/26/21).

This jacket was worn by shop owner during summer in the 1950s. It was lent during the early 1970s to be worn by an actor in a model revolutionary opera who was playing the part of a peasant in Pingyaun Zuozhan.
Collected by Sang Ye from his mother's colleague's father in 1996 on behalf of the museum.

Mens Chinese style jacket made of course machine woven beige cotton. Overlong sleeves to thumb knuckle and short stand collar. Two patch pockets at left and right front at hip level. There are short side seam vents at the hem. Centre front opening fastens with seven knotted cotton toggles. Machine sewn, unlined.
