Purchased at Chatswood disposal store and modified by Hirst (bastardised in his words). Hirst bought the army jacket, cut off the sleeves and dyed it blue. When he washed it much of the blue dye came out. This took place at 77 Albert St Chatswood, Midnight Oil's spiritual home, a hippie house where Hirst lived for eight and a half years.

Worn by Midnight Oil's drummer Rob Hirst 1978-1981 in performances at inner city venues such as French's in Darlinghurst, the Civic Hotel in Pitt St and the Bondi Lifesaver.

Jacket, sleeveless, cloth, used by Rob Hirst, drummer for Midnight Oil, Australia, 1978-1981.

Sleeveless cotton jacket worn by Midnight Oil's drummer Rob Hirst. Dyed irregular light blue shade from original [khaki]. Sleeves have been cut off at the shoulders, the proper right featuring half a zipper sewn around the edge. Jacket is decorated with many patches in multicoloured material on pockets, arm holes and back. Loose threads and fraying all over. Pocket on right side has metal studs. Pocket on left features a zipper, and red and green horizontal overlocked strips of material. There is a dark blue patch under left pocket and a large patch on the back, proper right side. A section of mop, dyed blue is attached to the proper left epaullette. The jacket shows evidence of having been modified by the donor Rob Hirst ('bastardised' in his words).
