Tin for ham cured red herrings, metal / paper, made by Blanchflower & Sons, Great Yarmouth, England, part of shop stock, food related groceries and associated packaging, Wong family, Australia, c.1880-1930
Ovoid cylindrical metal tin with base cut away. The tin is painted blue and adhered to the front is a paper label, printed in red and blue with product and manufacturers information.
Made: Blanchflower & Sons; Great Yarmouth, England; 1875 - 1930
Marks
A label adhered to the front, printed in red and blue "BLANCHFLOWERS / FOR PRESERVED FISH IN TINS" Following this are two medalions with details of prizes won, and between them a shield with the image of three mermen in a row. The first award is "HIGHEST AWARD / INTERNATIONAL FISHERIES EXHIBITION", the lettering bordering a female head with the words "VICTORIA REGINA". The other medallion says "GOLD MEDAL AND MERIT TWO DIPLOMAS / INTERNATIONAL FISHERIES" . The label also bears the detials "Potted / Meat" and "Fish & / Game" "cured & Preserved by / BLANCHFLOWER & SONS / Preserved Provision Manufacturers & Wholesale Italian warehousemen. / GT. YARMOUTH ENGLAND." Followed by cooking directions.
