Description
Knife (bade-bade) with scabbard, iron/wood/silver, Malayasia, 1880-1900.
Knife: with slightly recurved, single edged black of 240mm made of iron. The hilt is made of pierced and fretted black wood in a foliate or feather design. The pommel and throat are of silver, embossed in an intricate floral design and the end of the grip has a cover of silver decorated with stripes and borders.
Scabbard: scabbard made of dark wood covered in two parts with chiselled silver decorated with a floral and scroll design on the front and a diaper design on the back, both with borders of narrow rope-like stripes and scrolling leaves. The two parts are separated by three narrow bands of silver wrapped around the wood. The throat of the scabbard with carved in a scrolling foliate design.
