Victa and CSIRO developed the 'Vortex action' blade disc, this principle uses swirling sucking action to lift the grass before cutting and transporting into the catcher. Because the blades are not required to fling the grass into the catcher, lower speeds are required and therefore less noise.

Lawnmower with grass catcher, rotary two stroke petrol 'Victa vortex', plastic/rubber/metal, designed by Design Field, 1983-1984, made by Victa, Sydney, 1984

Black painted metal and red plastic base with four black rubber wheels on two concealed axles. Vertically placed two-stroke petrol engine is completely concealed by a red plastic cowl in 'high tech' style with sharp edges, flat surfaces and red and black grid lines. A corrugated plastic air snorkel runs from the cowl up the rear (folding) chromed tubular steel handle. A black plastic grass catcher fits onto the rear of the base. The word Victa is embossed into the front of the cowl in black and the word Vortex is on the front of the metal base in white lettering.
