Dance belt, string/ochre/feather/clay/resin, Bob Burruwal, Bolkdjam, Maningrida, Northern Territory, 1997.
The belt is constructed from ten horizontal lengths of twisted bush string that are held together by a number of vertical strings that weave the horizontal lengths together. At each end of the belt a loop has been fashioned and lengths of grass string are knotted to each loop. The belt is worn by encircling the waist and tying together the lengths of grass string. The belt and loops are painted in vertical ochre stripes of yellow brown/white/grey/black. 31 tassels of woven bush string hang vertically from the belt to two different lengths, 220 or 300mm. White painted clay is used to attach the tassel to the belt. White painted clay or sugar bag resin is used to attach white feathers to the bottom of each tassel.
