Ladle, belonging to Sir George Reid, silver, Edinburgh, Scotland, 1810
Silver, presentation ladle with a long, curved handle and deep bowl. At the top of the ladle handle on the verso are five silver marks (male head, castle, thistle with leaves, 'e', 'N&G') that indicate that the ladle was made in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1810. Place and date on the handle verso, engraved 'Johnstone/ 1897' (Note: This inscription probably commemorates Reid's return in 1897 to the town of his birth, Johnstone, Scotland). Owner's monogram in cursive writing on the top of the handle at the front, engraved 'G. H. R' (Note: These are the initials of George Houston Reid).
