1990-1996
Brought to Australia by Nicolai Maresev, the conservator on the Russian team that came to Australia with the Treasures from the Kremlin, the world of Faberge exhibition. This show was on display at the Powerhouse Museum from 2 July to 20 September 1996 and this gift was given to the musuem on the occasion of staging of this exhibition.

Description
Intaglio, agate, portrait of Greek warrior, Nicolai Meresev, Moscow, Russia, c 1996. A yellow/amber coloured agate of a semi-spherical shape. The flat side, formed as a rectangle with rounded corners, is incised in the intaglio technique with a head-and-neck profile of a young Greek warrior looking to the right. Depicted with regular features, straight Greek nose and wavy hair, he wears a helmet. (It may be Pericles, the Athenian statesman, c 495-429 B.C.).
