Dagger with scabbard, silver/wood/buffalo horn, Malaysia, 1800-1926.
Kris or dagger: dagger (tambok lada) has a single edged slightly curved blade, hilt or grip of buffalo horn, in carved openwork foliate design.
Scabbard: sheath of wood has only the upper part visible, carved in an openwork design at right angles to the oversheath (pendok) of silver, this oversheath has a scrolling foliate design on one side, and a diaper pattern on the reverse, the tumbok lada is primarily a stabbing knife, the distinctive hilt is thought to give the weapon its name.
