Description
Netsuke, Japanese toggle, packet of glutinous rice, lacquered wood, maker unknown, Japan, 1700-1900 [Edo period]. Hand carved laquered wood figure. Depicts a packet of glutinous rice. The packet which holds the rice is possibly made of laquered ebony. It is square shaped with four square quarters, each of the quarters has thin ridges along one of its outersides. There is a laquered signature, probably of the maker, on the underside of one of the quarters.
