Netsuke, Japanese toggle, hare paw raised in play, boxwood, Masanao, Japan, 1700-1900. Handcarved wooden form of a hare. Depicted in crouching position, with right paw raised, head extended fowards and ears flattened along back. One of the signs of the zodiac. Also thought of as "the man in the moon".
