This object was part of a collection owned by the donors Alastair and Hedda Morrison. It was purchased from a Sotheby's sale 9/7/68 (item 717). Prior tho that it had been part of the Hindson Collection. Prior to that it had apparently been part of the Reiss Collection (sale catalogue lot 524 illus. p1). It was exhibited at the Red Cross Exhibition, 1915, No. 172 illustrated in the catalogue, pl. 49.
Netsuke, dress accessory, toggle, in a shape of a ghost who towers over a little human figure', boxwood, maker unknown, Japan, 1700-1900. Handcarved wooden form. Depicts long skinny figure, with an elongated neck and a grotesque face, dressed in robes. At the ghost's feet stands a small human figure head tilted to gaze upwards.
