Object statement
Negatives (45), b&w, Liza Goddard, taken for the book 'Made in Australia', acetate film, David Mist, Sydney, 1969
The photographs show English-born television and stage actress Liza Goddard. Liza and 'Skippy' the kangaroo were both stars of the popular Australian television series, 'Skippy the Bush Kangaroo', based around the story of a boy and Skippy, the bush kangaroo.

Set in the Australian bush, the series was produced by Artransa Studios in Frenchs Forest, Sydney between 1966 and 1968. Although television viewing was still black and white in Australia at the time, Skippy was shot on 16mm colour film to increase its marketability internationally.

One of David Mist's photographs of Liza Goddard appeared in the 'Made in Australia' book published in 1969, the year Goddard returned to England to continue her acting career.

Anne-Marie Van de Ven, 2009
The English actor Liza Goddard was starring in 'Skippy' on Australian television in 1969. She is photographed here boxing and with a kangaroo.
English-born television and stage actress Liza Goddard (b. 1950, arr. Australia 1965) has acted in many classic British television series including Doctor Who, Bergerac and Midsomer Murders.
In these photographs captured by English-born Sydney-based photographer David Mist some show her with one of the kangaroos that starred alongside her in the popular Australian television series 'Skippy the Bush KangarooÂ?, produced in Sydney between 1966 and 1968.
The photographer recalls: Â?The joey came in a sack from the set of the TV series and was remarkably well behaved. Sat there and looked at us all. Liza made herself at home with him.Â?
One of the photographs was published in 'Made in Australia', a book of photographs by David Mist published in 1969 - the year Goddard returned to England.
The David Mist archive was acquired by the Powerhouse Museum as a gift from the photographer under the Commonwealth GovernmentÂ?s Taxation Incentives for the Arts program in 1996.
