'Kingsford Smith Memorial Award' trophy made of wood with metal detail. The trophy consists of a wooden square base with tall vertical back in the shape of two arcs attached at right angles. On the face of the base is a brass plaque and infront of the arcs is a wooden handmade replica of the motor of the Southern Cross painted silver with dark brown propeller and decorative chromed wreaths below this. In the base is a circle in which a screw is attached to the chromed part of the trophy. The wood component of the trophy has a smooth, lacquered finish.
The brass plaque on the base of the trophy is engraved with, 'INAUGURAL KINGSFORD-SMITH / MEMORIAL AWARD FOR / INSPIRATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT / NANCY BIRD-WALTON / BALLINA 1993'. Above this on a circular blue plaque on the chromed part of the trophy is, 'KINGSFORD-SMITH FESTIVAL / SOUTHERN / CROSS / BALLINA' with a picture of a monoplane in the centre. On the base of the trophy is a luminous yellow sticker with red printed text, 'MANUFACTURED BY: / BEDDOES TROPHIES / CLARK STREET, BALLINA / PHONE (066) 86-3285 / AUSTRALIAN MADE'.
