Engraving in mount, Tephrosia reticulata, from 'Banks' florilegium', paper/ink, Sydney Parkinson [artist]/Editions Alecto Limited [print], Australia/United Kingdom, 1980
After the drawing made by Sydney Parkinson at the Endeavour River, Queensland, between 17 June to 4 August 1770.
The engraving was made by Editions Alecto Limited of London working with the original engraved plates held in the British Museum of Natural History. This edition is limited to a print run of 100 sets.
This engraving was printed in 1980 from the original plate made from 1771.
The plates were made in London from Sydney Parkinson's drawings after 1771. In 1820, Sir Joseph Banks bequeathed the plates to Robert Brown, his curator/librarian, who passed them on to the British Museum of Natural History. The museum, in conjunction with Editions Alecto, decided to publish all the plates in 1980 for the first time.
