Dress, evening, silk / polyester, designed by Jenny Bannister, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 1994
This dress is by Melbourne based designer Jenny Bannister who runs a small studio producing a limited range of fashion garments which sell through boutiques like Black Vanity. In the 1970s and 1980s Jenny Bannister was best known for her quirky and experimental 'art clothes' including fifties inspired plastic dresses and studded leather sheaths. More recently she has moved into the mainstream fashion market and has been particularly succesful over the last two years with her corset bodices and slip dresses. The silver lame dress has been acquired as an example of the design skills of Jenny Bannister and of her contemporary production for the mainstream fashion market. In addition the slip dress is one of the most popular fashion styles of 1994.
Made in Jenny Bannister's Melbourne studio.
Made in December 1994
Dress has not been worn, purchased new directly from Jenny Bannister. Will be worn by professional model at the cocktail party launching the 1994 Fashion of the Year, on February 6 1995.
